The deft Emma Thompson and the dire Paul Feig team up for this absurdly contrived holiday rom-com that manages to be as satisfying as any Christmas comedy based on a song by Wham! could possibly be. If nothing else, the abundant use of George Michael’s music reminds us how many great songs that guy wrote and produced.
